HOW DO YOU BECOME A MEMBER OF BHCC LSA?
The Beverly Hills/Century City Legal Secretaries Association (“BHCC LSA”) was chartered by Legal Secretaries, Incorporated (“LSI”) in 1948.
Our primary purpose is continuing legal education. BHCC LSA and LSI provide members with many opportunities to increase knowledge and improve skills. Classes and seminars are sponsored in addition to the educational speakers featured at monthly BHCC LSA meetings.
Any person who is licensed to practice law or is employed as a legal secretary, legal assistant, paralegal, law office administrator, typist, clerk, word processor, or reporter in any California law office, and any person employed in the courts, the trust department of a bank or trust company, or in the legal department of any public or private office is eligible to join.
Prospective members must have been employed for a period of at least one year at the time of application for membership. Membership applications are only given when a prospective member has attended two open meetings (business or social), within a four-month period.
Once qualifications have been met, the prospective member receives and completes an application, submits it to BHCC LSA with the required fee, then the application is reviewed by the Board and, if all requirements are met, membership is offered and upon acceptance the applicant is installed as a member of BHCC LSA.
Dues are payable annually in advance, prorated between BHCC LSA and LSI. The fiscal year runs May 1 to April 30. The annual dues are: $45.00 which includes a one-time initiation fee of $5.00. Monthly dinner meetings are held on the west side of Los Angeles on the third Thursday of each month (excluding May, August and December). The cost is $35.00. An educational guest speaker is featured at each dinner meeting.
Members of BHCC LSA receive advance notice of all LSI publications and events, as well as a yearly subscription to LSI’s quarterly magazine, The Legal Secretary. Additionally, BHCC LSA has a monthly newsletter, the Legal Daze, featuring current information on changes in the law, meeting notices, interclub news, and other news of BHCC LSA members.
BHCC LSA members are eligible to participate in: group insurance plans (major medical, dental, cancer, disability, income, retirement); IRAs, 401K rollovers, retirement plans; credit union membership; Costco membership; Hertz Corporation rental discounts; employment service sponsored by BHCC LSA (available to members and attorneys at no charge); and discounts with The Rutter Group when purchasing LSI legal practice guides.
